Read a short note from Dr. Shoba Subramanian on Stress Awareness Month:

stress-awarenessApril marks the start of Stress Awareness Month, an annual observance to help raise awareness of this issue. Around the world, a record 40% of adults acknowledge experiencing stress during a lot of the day.1 Understanding how we can address the causes and concerns of workplace stress is paramount to help ensure employees are working within a productive and comfortable environment.

This year, the Stress Management Society is hosting a 30-Day Challenge encouraging everyone to pick one action to perform each day to improve their mental, physical and emotional well-being. This could be as simple as filling in the 30-Day Challenge calendar2 or reciting positive thoughts in front of the mirror. A systematic programme of activity can help address workplace worries to help prevent the accumulation of stress before it becomes overwhelming. Declining performances, uncharacteristic errors or loss of motivation are common signs of stress.2 If you start noticing some of these symptoms among your employees, Employee Assistance Programmes (EAPs) can be a go-to resource for the advice and support your staff members may need. - Dr. Shoba Subramanian, Medical Director, Europe, UnitedHealthcare Global
