Read a short note from Dr. Shoba Subramanian on Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month:

ovarian-cancer-awareness-monthApproximately 295,000 women globally are diagnosed with ovarian cancer every year. Only half of those women will survive five years beyond diagnosis.1 It’s more important than ever for women to monitor for symptoms such as irregular bleeding or pelvic pain, and book in at your local GP/ family doctor if you have any concerns.

Getting surgery provides the best long-term prognosis for anyone who has ovarian cancer. Yet research shows that older women are much less likely to get their preferred treatment option, and less than 50% of women diagnosed in their seventies will get surgery at all.2 The mission of this year’s Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month is to end health inequalities and encourage everyone to get checked out. - Dr. Shoba Subramanian, Medical Director, Europe, UnitedHealthcare Global
